Premature babies need to take different therapies so they can avoid delays with their development. There are many complications like cerebral palsy that premature babies will definitely need therapies so they can deal with the disfunction (Broderick, 2011). Not every premature baby needs therapy but it really all depends on what their weight and strength is when they are born.
The infant are less likely to survive if they are born anytime before thirty-seven week gestation. Some of the most common causes of prematurely born infants is the use of alcohol during pregnancy, drugs, medications, domestic violence, older or younger moms, being underweight before and during pregnancy, and not having a healthy eating habit during pregnancy. Babies who are born prematurely usually have serious health problem, either right away or later in the future. These serious health problems may include, birth defects, heart problems, lung problems, malfunctions of certain organs, mental deficiencies, and susceptibility to infections (American Pregnancy Association, 2007). Premature infants usually move less than full term infants. Families always have difficulties when it comes to their premature infants. As they are often afraid of injuring their baby because they are so small. Parents continuously are checking up on their baby, being sure their rooms are at a perfect temperature, and creating a healthy environment. Parents are always trying their best to work at helping their baby become healthy. Premature infants are able to become as healthy as a full term baby through being involved in different therapies.
